(346 words) This story can be called really creepy, but the impression of it remains positive, as it makes you think about many important things.
Why does neither the main character, nor those around him have a name? Because the gentleman from San Francisco is the image of the entire population presented to us. These people have no values, the most important thing for them is personal comfort and money. That is why we do not see absolutely no relationships between members of this family and dialogues between vacationers. It seems that everything that happens on the Atlantis deck is fake, and people on it are fake, so they have no names. They shield themselves from reality with this tinsel in the form of meaningless homogeneous evenings and luxuries, these people have no life, this also symbolizes the name of the steamer on which they are all located. The author shows a good contrast - the raging ocean behind the ship and the work of sailors, but vacationers do not hear and do not see this because of the music of the orchestra. It is also indicative that everyone from San Francisco was treated respectfully exactly until his death, after which, like some garbage, they put him in an ordinary box, he was not treated like a man, he was treated like a bag with money. No one noticed any difference after his death, because there are still a lot of such bags of money. All these people are essentially already dead. Bunin in this story shows that money is nothing, and people who have exclusively material wealth are empty people who are nothing of themselves.
Thus, the main idea and moral of the story “The Master from San Francisco” is that money does not make a person truly happy, you need to have something other than wealth in order to live and not exist. All luxury and expensive things lose their meaning if, in addition to this, a person does not have values, goals and desires. With the help of money, you can ensure yourself a good rest and travel, but you cannot buy a warm relationship with your family with money, real respect from others and such ordinary human emotions and feelings as love. In order to sincerely remember and love you after death, you need to be a real person, and not just a bag with a round sum of money, this is what the author is trying to convey to readers.
