(435 words) Betrayal is a baseness that humiliates a person to the limit, because such an act harms society and the state, family and friends. That is why treason is always punished by people very strictly. Revenge is one of the types of such punishment, and I believe that it is a legitimate and effective method of influencing those who dare to betray. To confirm my point, I will give arguments from books.
In the story of N.V. Gogol "Taras Bulba" the main character took revenge on his son, who betrayed the fatherland. Andriy fled from the camp to the besieged city, where his lover was hiding. There he stayed, swearing allegiance to the Poles. Love replaced his family, comrades and the fatherland. For his father, such an act was a shame. He raised a patriot who stands for his native land, and the young man exchanged the ideals sacred for the Cossacks for a beautiful girl. The behavior of the hero, his former fellow soldiers also considered treason. But the most terrible thing in his flight is an apostasy from the family, which he exchanged for the beautiful Polish girl. So, his selfish act undermined the social and family foundations of the Cossacks, set a negative example for the youths. How to fix this? Taras, a born leader, answered himself this question: he killed his own son to show others that there is no mercy for the traitors. A harsh lesson was to correct the evil that Andrius irresponsible sowed. Now people saw that even fathers were punishing traitors, and were in no hurry to betray the fatherland, fearing punishment. So revenge partly helps to correct the consequences of treason.
In Leo Tolstoy’s novel “Anna Karenina,” the hero forbids his wife, who cheats on him, to see her son. Moreover, the whole society turned its back on a woman who openly broke her family ties. Now she was not accepted at balls and audience, no one corresponded with her, people avoided her and did not greet on the street. Almost all those who surrounded her erased Anna from life. But the worst part was the parting with Sergei, because the heroine loved her son, although she betrayed his father. Unfortunately, her patience was full, and Anna committed suicide. You can blame the society and Karenin himself for their punitive measures against women, but I believe that the lack of revenge in such cases has a decaying effect on society. If you accept Anna again and do not limit her communication with her son, then people can set a negative role model. Girls will be willing to commit adultery and destroy marriages, because such acts do not entail negative consequences. In order to prevent an immoral epidemic, one must avenge marital betrayal, but not by violence, of course, but by contempt, which should give people a moral lesson.
Thus, the traitor should take revenge, because his act should not become the norm of behavior for the whole society, which means that it is necessary to suppress attempts at treason and uncompromisingly respond to an incident of this kind. This is the only way to give a lesson to other people so that they have no temptation to deceive and change.
